Superb quality genuine 119 year old watch, in perfect working order, with a fine quality "Kew Observatory Class A Certificate" movement by W Batty & Sons of Manchester, and is housed in a clean heavy sterling silver case. It has a white enamel dial, with an extra hinged silver front lid with peep-hole glass and is complete with its protective interior glass cover. It is a very good timekeeper. The silver watch chain has graduating links and attached is a large antique silver pierced fob medal with an unused cartouche. The chain alone weighs a heavy approx 49 grams. A fine set.Measurements Great size, the watch measures approx 2.15 inches (54mm) in diameter, excluding stem, and is 0.6 (14mm) deep. The silver watch chain measures 13.25 inches (335mm) in length.Date English Antique late Victorian solid sterling silver, with full English silver hallmarks for Chester 1900 (date letter "R"). Excellent clear struck marks, stamped in 7 separate places. The Albert chain has lion passant silver marks on every chain link and is hallmarked Birmingham 1900, (date letter "a") on the t-bar. The swivel is hallmarked Birmingham 1897.Maker Silversmiths initials "I.H", (John Hammon - 1869 -1903), on the watch case. The watch movement is stamped "W Batty & Sons Ltd, Manchester", "No 36679" "Class A Certificate, Kew Observatory 77.5". Condition Lovely condition. The watch is in perfect working order and a good timekeeper, winding and running the full length of the spring. The heavy silver case has no splits or repairs and no knocks or dents. All the cobalt blue enamelling on the lid is original, just has one tiny loss, really nothing. The white enamel is also original, it does have faint hairlines, (see photos) the protective glass is undamaged and the extra peep-hole glass on the lid is intact. The antique silver albert chain is also in lovely condition and the silver swivel catch works perfectly and has a strong spring. The watch has a handsome large period engraved Gothic monogram on the reverse and also has a later presentation inside on the inner rear dust cover.
