CURRIER AND IVES LITHOGRAPH TAYLOR FILLMORE CAMPAIGN POSTER 1848 FRAMED. Has some foxing and the frame has a couple of small dings. Wood back. Frame measurements are about 16.5" by about 12.5"1848 Currier Ives campaign poster for Zachary Taylor a general and hero of the Mexican Warand Millard Fillmore, at the time Comptroller of New York State. They were the Whig candidates for President and Vice president in 1848. Their Opponents were Lewis Cass, the Demo...cratic candidate, and former President Martin Van Buren who ran again as a Free Soil Candidate. Taylor and Filmore won with 163 electoral votes to Cass 127. Taylor the twelth President died in office and Fillmore became the thirteenth President. Thus you have two Presidents on a single campaign poster. A campaign banner for Whig presidential and vice presidential nominee for 1848 Zachary Taylor and Millard Fillmore. This allowed for larger portraits. Bust portraits of the to get candidates Taylor in his military uniform is on the left and Fillmore on the right. They are both framed with Acanthus wreaths and set side-by-side against a dressed stone wall on which are Incised 3 stars. The candidates are turned slightly toward each other and appear against a sky back read the banner compares closely with another better which Currier produced for the Cas Butler ticket Taylor and Philmont were nominated on June 9th 1848 and this lithograph probably appeared soon thereafter. It is interesting to note Taylor is here designated the people's candidate for president Fillmore is merely called the Whig candidate.This is a great opportunity for history buffs to have an example of mid 19th century campaign literature.
