Large Orange Studio Art Glass Vase By Darryle Hinz & Anja Kjær, Denmark, Signed
Item History & Price
Signed: Signed "Darryle Hinz Anja Kjær DK 1996" on the bottom.
It measures about 16" (406mm) tall by 5 1/2" (140mm) in diameter across the widest part.
Prov...enance: This piece was purchased by me in Denmark, from an exhibition at the famous Illums Bolighus department store in Copenhagen, and has been at our house since I bought it in 1996. It has been well cared for in our smoke free home; it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or other damage; just a few minute base scratches where it has sat on a shelf.
About the Artists: The Hinz/Kjær Glass Studio was the collaboration of American glassblower Darryle Hinz and his Danish wife Anja Kjær. The studio was known in Denmark as "Glasværkstedet, " and started in Copenhagen and later was moved to the seaside town of Gilleleje. Kjær's background is in ceramics, and she has worked as a designer for (among others) Royal Copenhagen. Darryle Hinz is a California born master glass blower educated in the art in both the USA and Sweden. His work can be found in museum collections around the world, including the Corning Museum of Glass, the Broadfield House of Glass Museum in London and numerous others. The glass studio closed in 2001; Hinz can no longer blow glass, following a severe case of carbon monoxide poisoning; today he works primarily as a painter.
Valuation: Purchased in Denmark in 1996 for the equivalent of US $325.00. I have seen quite a few pieces from this studio at "modern design" auctions around the world, but the prices vary extensively.
NOTE: This will be shipped via PRIORITY MAIL, both to the USA and overseas. If you're an international buyer, duties and taxes are 100% YOUR responsibility!
We are just individuals selling our stuff; not "dealers!" We are thinning out some of our rather extensive collection of home decor, original art, art books, catalogues, antiques, old stamp collections and other collectibles. The kids have left home and have expressed that they are "not interested" and we are basically "downsizing" and simplifying our lives. This is an ongoing process that will last many months (years?)... hope our treasures find good homes and enjoyment elsewhere; we have loved having them, but now they need new happy homes!
