A fine and very rare 1827 Scottish sterling silver Neptune and trident coffee pot or hot water jug.
Period engraved crest for Paterson-Wallace, an ostrich holding horse shoe and mottotranslated it is to be hoped.
From the rarely seen Edinburgh work shop of Adam Elder, listed briefly from 1826-1831.
In squat ovoid form with in-swept shoulder.Beautifully hand carved ...scene of Neptune seated with trident, watching a sea cherub withcape and arrow, riding serpent in crashing waves.Opposite side with bird of prey perched atop shield, united by hand raised leaf and floralon satin surfaces.Center with Paterson-Wallace crest.Cover retains to original shell framed bud finial and volute thumb piece.Twin leaf crowned Old Man of the Forest masks, under spout and handle.
This rare 1827 Scottish Neptune & serpent coffee pot is 9 1/2 inches andweighs 38 standard ounces.
In fine condition.
Interior clean as if little, or never used.
Rich sterling throughout.
Retains original detail.Cover stay tiny bit open, easy fix.
I had our silversmith replace the heat stops withwell matched composite.
