This smallsize and portability is ideal when a Doctor needs to dispensemedication in the home. The box, when closed, measures 2-7/8 by 1 5/8by 1/4 inches. The scales capacity is “1/2 to 20 grains”, idealfor sizing medicine powder doses. It is stamped “RHEA” PatentedJune 13, 76. Patent #1786...73.Note—Itlooks like the Rhea scale precedes the 1885 Dr. Fitch pocketscale of similar design, by about nine years. Thescale assembly consists of a longer weighing beam and a shorter traybeam hinged together at a flat platform pivot point. The circulartray on which the ingredients to be weighed are placed is attached tothe outer edge of the tray beam. The weigh beam is slotted for thesliding counter weight and has graduated markings from 0 to 20. Thescale and bowl is made from brass stampings. The folded scale andtray neatly fit into the very thin nickel plated box for storage.Thebox and scale show minor age-related wear but have no defects.
